Neighborhood B-Student Projects

January 16, 2009

Sunrise Valley and McNair students are exploring the possibility of using ThinkQuest as a way for the GEMS (Girls Excelling in Math and Science) students to collaborate with girls at other schools around the nation.

Navy is gearing up for Global Awareness by learning new tech skills every other week.  5th graders will create movies using Windows Movie Maker, MMTK, Pixie, Inspiration, and the web.

At Terraset, students collaborate to create video tutorials for other students. They work in pairs, select a topic, come up with a storyboard and a script and use the SMARTBoard recorder to capture their actions and their voice. Teachers post these tutorials on their 24-7 sites and use them for unit or SOL review. Students also work with teachers from other grade levels so that the older kids make videos for the younger kids. See the movies at: http://www.fcps.edu/TerrasetES/.  A third grade teacher has created her own customized Google Search for Ancient Greece.  View it at: http://tinyurl.com/9xhrj8

Hunters Woods—Arts Integration Celebration begins in February! Every class creates a project integrating the arts with the curriculum.  Look for projects that combine Art w/Geometer’s Sketchpad!

Crossfield-second grade students are using Pixie to create web pages for the reading responses.  This idea was student generated!

McNair ES has an after school computer club.  This month a student is teaching Sim City, then they’ll do 2 months of GEMS, then a month of robotics, followed by a month of student-taught Scratch.

Oak Hill 6th graders are working on Stop-Action animation videos to illustrate causes of the American Revolution.  They’ll use digital cameras and Windows Movie Maker to present skits of some of the events leading up to the American Revolution.  Fourth graders are working on creating Google Lit Trips with their Literature Circle novels.  They’re collecting websites, web photos, and probing questions in their group Wiki and then copy/pasting their information into Google Placemarks to create tours based on the book they read.
